Scolimo
History
The Scolimo language resurfaced in 2000, when Nicholas McCollister of the Wattii company uncovered fragments of ancient writings on the hidden island of Wiiowii in the South Pacific. Once spoken by an estimated 100,000 islanders, this rare tongue is built on 23 unique symbols, each representing sounds formed from the middle to the front of the mouth. Unlike most modern scripts, Scolimo is written vertically, flowing from top to bottom like a living chant etched in stone.
After its rediscovery, the islanders embraced Scolimo once more. Over time, the script evolved into two forms: the original shorthand, raw and practical, and the refined modern style, elegant and ceremonial. Both are still in use today, weaving tradition and innovation together.
Though the language has been reawakened, much about Scolimo remains a mystery. Scholars and island storytellers continue to unlock its deeper rhythms, revealing how it shaped not only communication but also ritual, art, and the island’s magic itself.
